Dirty Monkey

This dirty monkey cocktail tastes like a piña colada married a banana split. It always reminds me of tropical vacations, but we’re bringing this tropical treat in your kitchen!

If you haven’t had the joy of drinking a dirty monkey before, it’s made with bananas, pineapple, coconut, rum, and Kahlua.

Like all good things, my dirty monkey recipe is drizzled with chocolate and topped with whipped cream and a cherry!

Once you try this delicious cocktail, you’ll be sipping it all year long.

How To Make This Dirty Monkey Cocktail Recipe

This dirty monkey recipe starts in a blender. Blend the bananas, pineapple, and coconut cream together until they’re nice and smooth.

Add the rum and Kahlua into the mixture. Then, depending on how thick you want the drink to be, add 3-4 cups of ice.

Next, coat the inside of four hurricane glass with chocolate syrup.

Tilt the glass to one side and slowly move the chocolate syrup back and forth.

Pour the banana mixture into the chocolate-coated cups and garnish the drinks with whipped cream and a cherry.

If you like your drink extra chocolatey, add another drizzle of chocolate syrup and enjoy!

What Glass Should I Use for These Dirty Monkey Cocktails?

I’m using a hurricane glass for this dirty monkey recipe.

The hurricane glass is what a lot of frozen drinks and milkshakes are served in. It’s tall and shaped like a hurricane lamp or vase.

If you don’t have a hurricane glass, you can use a highball glass!

How Should I Garnish This Drink?

I like to imagine this dirty monkey like a banana split, so I garnished accordingly- with whipped cream and a cherry on top.

Okay… and a little extra chocolate syrup because why not!

Dirty Monkey Ingredients & Substitutions

Bananas – Bananas are the key ingredient in this drink. I like to use pretty ripe bananas because they’re sweeter, but you can use whatever bananas you have available!

Canned Crushed Pineapple – I like to use canned pineapple because I think it gives the drink an extra punch of flavor, but you can substitute it with 1/2 cup of fresh or bottled pineapple juice.

Kahlua – Kahlua is coffee-flavored liquor. It adds richness to the drink and helps balance the overall flavor.

Rum – I love using an aged rum because it adds a caramel note to the drink and ties together the Kahlua and the banana!

Coconut Cream – I use canned coconut cream which can be found in the international section of the grocery store. This adds great flavor and creaminess to the drink.

Chocolate Syrup – There is really nothing that doesn’t taste better with a drizzle of chocolate but feel free to skip this if you don’t have any.

Whipped Cream – To make this drink extra special I like to add some whipped cream on top!

Cherry – Pretty please with a… yes, cherry on top, cause why not!
